FireFish: The Painted Collection
Hand painted using only the finest quality leftover old house paint from Janet’s colorful house, this bright wearable art collection is guaranteed not to fade or chip for twenty years!
Each unique ensemble features upcycled, artfully designed clothing - as well as costumes and shoes from the past three decades - all embellished with hand-painted designs (some painted over a time or two - or three!). Add some leftover craft, sewing and other attic, closet and basement odds and ends - including Mardi-Gras beads and painted wine corks - and voila: the FireFish Painted Collection!
Fashion highlights include:
Blake-This upcycled pink denim “Art’s Garage” jumpsuit also features leftover craft items and a pleather painted motorcycle gang Halloween hat that truly rocks!
Diane - An old white cotton eyelet sundress from summers’ past is transformed with house paint and leftover sewing sundries including Pom Poms and ribbon - all topped off with borrowed sequined boots, Mardi Gras beads, and strategically placed “blooming” silk flowers. Ahhhh, spring!
Jem - This tossed aside Southview HS hooded sweatshirt and old denim skirt features circles and swirls of every imaginable color and multiple designs. Add some green ribbons, old St. Patrick Day’s thigh high stockings, painted old leather boots... and you’ve got a real homecoming party!
Katarina - An old plain white shirt dress is truly transformed with brightly painted geometric designs, topped off with a Kentucky Derby hat, hot pink tights, and white duct tape covered second hand boots. What’s not to love?
Kelly - Clean and simple, this ensemble combines the old black jacket of a friend and some yellow house paint for a striking tailored look. Add a painted hat with random doo-dads and craft items from Janet’s house, a closet rod cane topped with an old light bulb and feathers, some painted tip shoes found in the attic —- tap dance the night away!
Joyce - We hand painted a dull grey tweed skirt and an old white shirt with colorful swirls and shapes, then cropped them both for a more festive and fitted look. Add those brightly painted fifteen year old shoes, some Mardi Gras beads, and a Halloween hat with random doo-dads, feathers, craft items, and cork rings — and it’s another party!
Sandy - A decades old white denim jacket and white cotton eyelet skirt was painted (and then painted again with house paint until it was just right!). We added (and subtracted and then added again!) miscellaneous feathers, gold trim from an old dress, fur, flowers, and an old straw hat decorated with fuzzy Pom Poms and old netting. Some amazing painted and well worn boots complete this truly striped and striking ensemble.
Janet - Take a decades old plain denim vest and some old jeans, cover with some hand painted flowers — and bring on spring! Add some Mardi Gras beads, duct tape, an old sparkly belt, painted tank top, old shoes, a Kentucky Derby hat - and anything that shines! — and the runway brightens right up!
Channele - Sporting a light red shirt (layered with house paint!) and add what were once plain red pants, old painted brown suede and wood shoes, and an gold table runner head dress - this ensemble lets the genie out of the bottle! The outfit is capped off with an old Valentines Day bead necklace, Mardi Gras bead earrings, cork rings, and a house painted “fake” turquoise beaded bracelet, topped with a purple feather boa.
Joan - This twenty five year old imported (and very expensive - but now even more valuable!) Italian suit jacket is covered in contrasting stripes and graffiti inspired layers of house paint. Add a vintage tie, a painted visor, some Mardi Gras bead earrings, cork rings, and old boots with painted Italian pant leg fringe - and well, you’re ready to hit the road!
Jen - Cowgirl inspired, and “starring” a Dolly Parton 2009 painted Halloween shirt embellished with Mardi Gras beads, gold rick rack, and gold glitter paint, this shirt is sewn into old “funeral underwear” to insure that some great dance moves keep everything covered! Add some painted old 4th of July shorts and an old Halloween hat with rick rack — and it’s a holiday (or two!) worth celebrating!
